At Better Quality Air we recommend to our clients to start with a mechanical hygiene report as well as coil pressure drop tests: This test involves taking the air pressure on either side of a coil within air conveyance system (ACS). To find your pressure drop, BAQ will take an air flow reading before and after a coil, the pressure drop should be within 10% of the manufacturers' specifications. If the coil is not within specifications, it is considered fouled (clogged, not energy efficient) and must be cleaned and retested.

When the manufacturer rates a fan, at say 0.50-in. TESP, and the system measures 0.83-in. TESP, airflow will typically be at 70% to 75% of capacity. At that airflow, heat transfer suffers significantly and the system performs poorly. Systems do not operate well outside of the manufacturer’s specifications. Cost to conduct this test depends on the size of the system.
